I’ve had a lifelong passion for music, and in particular rock music, since my mid-teens and after much badgering of my mother, got my first drum kit at 14 and set about learning the instrument under the guidance of my drum tutor Steve Palmer, brother of ELP’s Carl Palmer. I played in numerous local bands of varying styles from blues to metal and Jazz-rock and loved every minute of it.
In later years I worked for a PA company and at various music venues and toured with, and worked with, some relatively big acts in various capacities (drum roadie, roadie, stage crew, security etc) and also took up playing guitar which I do, somewhat poorly, to this day. But through all the above, mo overriding passion has been listening to rock music and exploring its many genres.
The excitement of discovering a new band, or hearing a bit of musical skill has never really left me and it is with this in mind that this website has been started. Whilst I don’t profess to be an all round musical expert, far from it, I have a wide ranging musical taste and working knowledge of zillions of bands and albums that I’d like to share with anyone willing to listen.
I know readers will have differing opinions from my own on many of the albums, and I am not professing to provide a fact-fest almanac for every band and album in the genre, but rather my own personal musings on those covered and most of all, I hope that people will browse the site and perhaps discover something new for themselves that they hadn’t heard of before and experience that same excitement I felt upon first hearing it too: if only one reader disovers a band here for the first time, I will feel I have succeeded in my task!
